Feb 17, 2009 · I'm also beginning to doubt the 'Marantz 2600 dead-transformer' problem, and suspect that it may be a myth perpetuated by techs who find troubleshooting this unit too involved. That isn't to say that some 2600 somewhere may not have smoked its transformer, but I'm a long way from believing it is it an endemic issue with these receivers.

I saw a pair of Marantz HD88 speakers today and it got me thinking this was the matching speakers that went with the 2600. The HD88's were rated at 300 wpc, the same as the 2600. They featured two or three dome tweeters, a midrange and a 12 inch woofer all in a very nice walnut cabinet.
